If we want to open up our own business what exactly do we have to do now in high school to start getting to that process?
I plan on opening up my own vet business when I get older but I'm still in high school but I love to help out so many animals that it just gives me that dedication to keep going to get closer where I want to be #high-school #veterinary-medicine #veterinary #veterinarian

Hi Magdalena,
That is wonderful you have found a passion for caring for animals. It is rewarding to do something you feel makes a difference. I would recommend looking into your local animal shelter or veterinary office and volunteering if you are able. This would give you hands-on experience in a professional setting and you will be able to directly ask those professionals how they got into their careers and what steps they took to be there. Volunteering is also a great boost for your resume and future college applications, especially if you plan to study veterinary medicine in the future, it would show you are dedicated to the field. If your eventual goal is to open your own business, taking some business classes in college would probably also benefit you so you have basic knowledge of what it takes to operate a business. Best of luck!

Study hard - lay the foundation in high school for academic success in college and veterinary school. Excellent grades and high SAT scores will ensure entrance into a good undergraduate institution which will prepare you for admittance to veterinary school.
Challenge yourself - take biology and other science courses, math and English, and other college prep classes.
Get involved in farm and science clubs as well as other leadership activities. Take opportunities to increase your appreciation for veterinary medicine.
Volunteer at a kennel, animal shelter, farm, or another setting where you can learn animal-handling skills. Begin to keep a record of your animal-related experience.
Ask your high school counselor about applying to colleges that will best meet your goals.
