Michael’s Answer

You will find that most jobs, not just in psychology, are found and gained by networking. In this case you need the Degree (a Ph.D.) and an internship to get a license. You make connections at the graduate school and then the hospital you work for which helps you find the next job, and from there the next one after that.

This particalr job I have now, Police Psychologist for the Houston Police Department, my wife actually found when she was talking to a psychologist there and they sad they had an opening. It was very unlikely we would have ever checked the City of Houston website where it was advertised.

You have to market yourself to succeed as a psychologist.

David’s Answer

For my current position I was called by a recruiter. In the past, I have gotten jobs by word of mouth; usually referred by a friend who already works there. Sometimes you can see a job on websites like Career Builder or Glassdoor and apply that way as well.
