David’s Answer

Hello Angela,

I won't provide any salary amounts as this can vary greatly. I will simply describe my career.

I am a financial advisor/planner. I help people reach their financial goals to the best of my ability. There are no requirements to call yourself a financial advisor, but if you want to be trusted then it is best to invest in yourself. Ways to do this include getting a degree, getting designations, getting licenses, attending seminars, and just staying up to date with relevant laws and news. Topics my expertise falls in include: counseling, consumer credit, debt management, cash management, goals, estate planning, investments, wealth management, taxes, legal and regulatory aspects, retirement planning, risk management, insurance, cash flows, assets and liabilities, charitable planning, and more!

I originally started out in nursing but did not enjoy it too much, I found personal financial planning and fell in love.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Matthew’s Answer

Hi Angela,

This is a question that I'm sure a lot of people are interested in when considering factors for what career they want to go into. While money may be a motivator to pick a career, it should not be the only reason to do so, as there an numerous other factors that are important (passion, skillset, and desired lifestyle just to name a few).

Typically people do not willingly post their own financial or other private information on messaging boards such as this. Thankfully the internet is rich with information on this subject based on anonymous surveys and other data points. Some websites that specialize in this kind of information are Glassdoor, Salary.com, and Payscale (there are many more out there too). It is important to be careful when navigating these websites as not all content is free.

One final note is just because a website says that a certain profession makes a specific salary, does not mean that is true across the board. There are many factors that play into salary designations such as experience, individual skill set, geographic location, demand, etc.

I hope you find this answer helpful.
