Hi Marisol!

Judy has provided some great answers to your question. I actually worked in retail for several years and completely agree with Judy's response-- customer service is HUGE, as well as patience. I would also recommend that attention to detail is an important skill, retail is based a lot upon presentation-- people will buy less from a store if the store is disheveled and buying less is bad for business! Also, this isn't a skill, but being willing to have a flexible schedule is also important-- I worked at the mall in high school and had to miss many Friday night hangouts with friends, because the mall was super busy on Friday nights-- just be sure to know that you will most likely be working a few hours a night and on the weekends.

Have fun!

Judy’s Answer

Hi Marisol,

Most Retail companies will focus on the following:

* Customer Service focus
* Great communication skills
* Problem Solving (Listening to the customer and finding a solution that works for them)
* Multi-tasking

If you have a strong interest in clothing, I'd definitely keep up to date on the trends and study into how to dress individuals/profiles and make recommendations when you're able. Good Luck

Alexandria’s Answer

Hi Marisol!

Great question! When working in retail I would say customer service is key for success! Clothing stores are constantly changing with the seasons and trends so I would recommend staying on top of the styles that are trending. Patience and communication are two other important factors when working in retail.

Good luck!
