What is the best way to become an apprentice for cosmetology?
I'm 16 and a sophomore and would like to start working around people in salons and that kind of business. How should I go about this? #cosmetology

Hi Camille,
COVID has definitely altered the job landscape. You can try searching for receptionist or shampoo assistant positions. I would also recommend physically driving around to see what salons are in your area. You can do a quick google search for “hair salons near ____ (insert your zip code) and call ahead.
As a minor, you may need a working permit. That is also a good first start too.
Good luck!

Apply for a work permit and pay the applicable fee. Train in a licensed shop under a licensed cosmetologist or cosmetology instructor (often referred to as sponsor during the apprenticeship period) Complete their apprenticeship within a specific period of time and/or work a minimum number of hours per week.
