There are no educational requirements for this career, although some may opt to complete a program at a modeling school to acquire experience. In some cases, models may also act as spokespeople and interact with customers who have questions about the clothing or makeup they're promoting.
Fashion Designers
Fashion designers are the creative minds who produce new clothing styles or accessories, such as scarves and purses. They spend their career working on products that will be fashionable and appeal to consumers. Most fashion designers study fashion merchandising and earn a bachelor's degree to prepare for their careers. While some concentrate on clothing designs other fashion designers may specialize in creating footwear designs or producing clothes for movies.
Photographers
Photographers do not need to have formal postsecondary training, although they may benefit from studying photography to acquire photography skills. They use photographic equipment to capture images of people, places and things. Those who specialize in working in fashion and beauty will photograph models wearing featured designs or products. These images may be published as advertisements or as featured photographs in fashion magazines discussing new trends and styles.
Hairdressers, Hairstylists, and Cosmetologists
Hairdressers, hairstylists, and cosmetologists provide scalp treatments, cut hair, and style hair. They may perform these tasks for models or actors to prepare them to be filmed in commercials or photographed for advertisements for new fashions or new beauty products. Whether they work in the fashion industry or not, all of these professionals strive to help people present themselves in a visually desired way, so they all focus on beauty by enhancing people's appearance. They must complete a program at a cosmetology school to earn a license to work in this field.
Art Directors
Art directors oversee the creation of visual material that's published in print. Those who work in fashion and beauty may work for magazines that specialize in this field. They may work directly with photographers and other professionals to ensure that they get images that convey the right tone for their publication.

Sales managers oversee sales staff and may train them to sell specific products. Some also sell products at the wholesale level and work on behalf of the manufacturer to get their products sold in specific stores. They typically start out working as sales representatives and are usually expected to have a bachelor's degree in management, marketing or another comparable discipline.

With training and going to school you could begin a career in the fashion industry as a makeup artist, hair stylist, colorist, nail professional, massage therapist, esthetician, barber, salon/spa owner, plastic surgeon or stylist. You can choose to work behind the scenes in a movie, on a Broadway play, at a fashion show or perhaps as a photo makeup artist/stylist.
