Is participation in DECA as an international competitor recognized by colleges as outstanding?

I do not know how highly colleges regard this program or its merits. #college #college-admissions #admissions #deca

Steve’s Answer

Amy,

I was Minnesota DECA state president a few years ago. I found that it varied by university. Johnson and Wales and Indiana University are two I remember who strongly recognized success in DECA. One good way to know if DECA is important to a university is to see if it's, specifically, listed as an activity on the application.

If you're applying to a business college you're really passionate about, you can also research faculty and see if they're involved with DECA. It's always good to be connected with anyone who recognizes its importance.

Best of luck!

Shamik’s Answer

Amy,

Will second Steve's reply. Treat DECA as a learning tool - working together in a team to resolve a (business/real life) issue/concern. Skills learned as DECA member will go a long way when you join corporate workforce.

Best of luck !

Thanks
