Hi Reece!
Sierra's answer above is solid. To add to it, some notable design schools are:
• The Rhode Island School of Design: This school is widely regarded as one of the best stand alone design schools in the nation. We've hired many interns from here at my company. They have an extensive internship program that you should look into.
• Carnegie Mellon University: Graphic design students attend the university’s College of Fine Arts. The college emphasizes hands-on learning.
• California Institute of the Arts: CalArts, founded by Walt Disney, offers a graphic design program that places an emphasis on the practical and conceptual sides of graphic design. Students have access to studios 24/7. The school has a extremely accomplished faculty. We've also hired from this college.
• California College of the Arts: CCA provides internships at publishing and printing firms, nonprofit organizations, and technology companies. We've also hired from this college.

I would add the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, to Jetangeline's list. Both great, albeit very expensive, options. I've had the opportunity to attend classes at the latter, and the chance to visit and interview interns at the former.
However, my personal experience has been that how GOOD a designer you are depends entirely on you. Consider your peers to be those whose work you admire, and are already in their careers. That already puts you in the mindset that your competition is amazing, and that you must be too.
I believe you can get your degree (affordably) from any school, and still be a good designer. On quite a few occasions, I've often wished I done the full degree program at Art Center, only to end up working side by side with graduates from that very same school. Your passion will help you find your level.

Hi Reece! I am not involved in the field of graphic design but there are several ways to identify the best college for you which I will list below!
1. Research graphic design schools in the state you want to go to school in. This can be done using google or websites like this one https://blog.prepscholar.com/best-graphic-design-schools-in-the-us
2. Look at each schools ranking, cost, graduation rate (this means how many students actually graduate from their program) and if possible how many of their students report getting jobs shortly after graduation. If its not listed this is a great question to ask when you visit the school!
3. Visit the school and schedule a meeting with the department chair or faculty. This will give you a feel for the program and if you like it!
4. Take a good look at their requirements for admission and try to exceed those if possible. That means if they require a B+ in a certain subject, aim for an A+. This makes your application more competitive!
5. Review your application thoroughly and submit before the deadline if possible. Also be sure to apply for any financial aid they may offer!
