Rachelle’s Answer

Hi. My name is Rachelle. I went to undergradute school for 4 years and then went to law school for 3 years. However, there are law schools now that give you the opportunity to go to law school for 2 years and work the last year of school to gain hands on expereince. There are also law schools that allow you to go 4 years at night and you can work during the day. One thing to know, although you generally need an undergraduate degree to apply to law school, you can major in anything (I majored in Psychology). The most important thing is to get good grades in preparation for applying to law school. Lastly, you will need to take a test called the LSAT. Good luck to you!

Jeanette’s Answer

Hi. My name is Jeanette. I spent most of my career in law as an in-house attorney for a life insurance company. (That means that I was an employee of the life insurance company and only provided legal services for that company.) It took me four years to get my undergraduate degree in political science. I went to law school full time for three years. As you can see from the other answers that have been provided to this question some law schools offer night school for part time students or alternatives to the traditional three year program.

Brigid’s Answer

Hi! My name is Brigid and I am currently a lawyer. To become a lawyer, I went to college for 4 years and earned a bachelors's degree. After graduating college, I went to law school for 3 years. I attended law school full-time as a day student, meaning I did not have a full-time job while I was in school. My law school also had a part-time program at night, so students who had full-time jobs could attend law school part time. The part-time students graduated law school in 4 years.

Kathryn’s Answer

Hi. I'm Kate and I am currently working as the managing attorney at a litigation counsel firm at CNA Insurance. To become a lawyer I attended a four year undergraduate degree and then three years of full time law school. Part time programs are generally 4 years long. As a result of COVID, a number of schools (including my own law school) are doing hybrid online/in person programs that may change the amount of time it takes to get a law degree (Juris Doctor). You could also opt to do a joint degree (i.e. JD/MBA) that may impact the amount of time it takes to secure a legal degree.
