Souheil’s Answer

Hi Nikhath,

The petroleum industry is a very large sector that goes from exploration/production to refining to trading to distribution, not to mention logistics and all the services that ensure quality ...etc

I would recommend you start asking yourself at what part of the life cycle you would like to be in. Are you interested to be a field engineer on exploration/production facilities? Are you interested more on the chemical aspect of petroleum? Are you more interested in the commercial and financial side of the field?

Answering those questions will start to guide you in the right direction. However you will need to know what you are getting into with regards to work/life balance: field engineers or people on rigs tend to work a few months none stop in secluded areas but get a a few weeks vacation every time they return; Traders can get calls at 3/4 am in the morning because the quality of the gasoline that they purchased is not abiding by all the chemical specifications in the contract,...etc

I hope this helps
