Hey Jaga,
I'd suggest the best degree if you chose to go down the Software Engineering role is Computer Science. This isn't a hard requirement but will definitely make it easier to understand fundamentals.

Hi Jaga, In India after you complete high school (10+2, in Math/Science) you have the below options to go into a software engineer role:
1) Do a Bachelors in Computer Science/IT/Software engineer
(This is a 4 year degree course that teaches you the basics in Computer Science - DataStructures, Programming languages, Databases, networking and web/mobile programming etc.)
2) Alternately there are private institutes - NIIT, Aptech which informally teach computer science (which are more application oriented).
I would recommend getting a Bachelors degree in Computer Science/IT/Software Engineer.
Thanks,
Jagan
