What do you consider the most important skills a diesel mechanic should poses.

I am interested in becoming a diesel mechanic and I still have over a year left in high school this being said I have plenty of time to acquire new skills. I already know how to diagnose a blown head gasket and how to machine a block to run again with shims. #diesel mechanics

Roy’s Answer

Mechanical Aptitude, first and foremost you have to understand mechanically how not only the diesel engine works but how the equipment it's powering functions. With that being said James' earlier answer is "spot" on, equipment today is increasing the amount of technology embedded in it, which will require a broad understanding of technical issues.
