Where can I learn more about fashion marketing?
I would like to major in fashion and would like more information and the privilege to learn more #fashion #help #internships #apparel-and-fashion

Hi Amirah! I majored in fashion merchandise marketing in college and now work in retail merchandising, I'd love to help! :)
I attended FIDM in Los Angeles, and majored in Merchandise Marketing. It was the best fit for me personally as I knew I wouldn't be interested in designing. While there, I learned basics in retail marketing, branding, and buying. Fashion Marketing can include so many facets! From social media, to site merchandising, and branding. I've done a little bit of each, and am currently in Site Merchandising. Fashion & Retail marketing involves a lot of strategic thinking working cross functionally with other teams. It's really fun! Though in my experience, requires a lot of long work hours.
There many different colleges that offer Fashion Marketing & Merchandising programs, it just depends on what best fits you. While looking, I would prioritize a school with good networking opportunities and a career center that helps you with finding work. Be clear and concise with what you want or don't want in your career, but also be open to new and different opportunities. Try to intern while in school. I've gotten interviews because I have my degree from FIDM, but ALWAYS get asked about my work experience more than what I did in school. Also look for opportunities with smaller companies. Often you can do a wide range of jobs at a smaller company that will help you level up to a bigger one.

Research colleges that offer Fashion Marketing & Merchandising programs; also research how many students get hired after graduation from that school!
Be pro-active, look at brands that you like, and think about what you like about their marketing or branding. Build an archive of brand marketing that inspires you.
Network with your teachers while in school, they are a great source for understanding working in fashion and possibly internship opportunities

For example, I really like footwear fashion and follow some of the big brands (Nike, adidas originals, allbirds, etc) and the product designers behind the great designs and well as streetwear fashion. Consider expanding your knowledge with checking out art, books, architecture, or traveling to other places; fashion takes inspiration from lots of different things.

It depends on which place you want to learn fashion since it is different in every country
In Fashion, look at professional organizations and schools that can give resources instead of creating financial debt
Use LinkedIn to find professional in fashion marketing and also knowing the companies that deal with fashion

Marketing is a common concentration is a Business major at most colleges. There are some institutions that feature fashion. FIT The Fashion Institute in NYC is an example.
Working in retail especially in a high end clothing stores or boutiques will acquaint you with the basics and offer the opportunity to meet professionals. This can lead to networking and reference individuals.
