Hi Morakinyo,
Right now the hot career is programming especially on mobile devices. I also see a lot of jobs for database administrators, analysts who know how to mine data and project managers. Everyone wants you to have prior experience so if you can get some internships that will help a little bit. Any way you can get experience, even volunteering, then do it.
Good luck!

Database Management is a very broad field but it basically involves designing, developing, managing or tuning tools and systems that store data. The toolset is evolving with more products each day. It's still a growing field as the amount of data collected and stored increases and new uses for that data are developed. Since businesses rely on data to function its an extremely important and sometimes high-profile role.

Database development is SUCH a broad field. Are you interested in the design (the putting together of requirements, seeing what the business users need, seeing how to translate those needs into specific details)? Then you would want to look towards business analysis, process improvement, or SDLC (software development life cycle) topics. Are you interested in the coding? You'll want to decide if you want to work on PCs, midrange computers, or something in the mobile computing field. PCs are often used for Access or other relational databases, while midrange computers are used for the heavy lifting of things like processing giant flat databases for loans, checking accounts, credit cards, student loans, etc. There aren't a lot of databases on mobile yet, but you never know going forward.
I'd say to figure out WHAT about database development gets you excited, and look in that direction. I'm a database geek, and I love it all!
