Many health careers offer an option to specialize working with a particular group of people, including children. These jobs range from treating children for illnesses and injuries to delivering infants to helping children develop speech. Individuals who want careers in healthcare and want to spend their time working with children can choose from several medical careers in pediatrics. Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with children of all ages from birth until they become adults. There are various medical programs requiring various degree levels and training requirements. Below are five medical careers in pediatrics Mariangelie.
REGISTERED NURSE – $82,000
Registered nurses (RNs) provide patient care and may specialize in working with children. They may further specialize in specific areas of medicine that focus on children, such as pediatric oncology, which is working with children who have cancer. RNs administer medication, observe patients, update medical records and monitor medical equipment. They may also explain to children and their families about the child's medical condition, treatment plan and what to do at home concerning their condition once they are released from the medical facility. All RNs must have a valid license, but education varies. They may hold a diploma, associate's or bachelor's degree. According to the BLS, the number of employed RNs was expected to increase by 12% between 2018 and 2028. This faster-than-average growth is attributed to several factors including the increase in the number of people with healthcare access, the high rates of chronic diseases and the medical needs of the nation's large elderly population. As a result, job prospects are favorable among licensed RNs, particularly for those with a bachelor's degree. The average salary for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the United States is between $58,000 and $103,500 as of January 29, 2021. Hi Mariangelie!
It sounds like you would enjoy being a Labor and Delivery Nurse! You will experience being a vital part of countless childbirths and definitely won't get bored with it. Nursing is a field where every day is different. You will learn more about what nurses in this field typically do during your nursing courses. The best way to become this type of nurse is to first get your BSN after high school, become licensed, then apply for new grad RN programs in Labor and Delivery units wherever you would like to work :)
Hope this helps!

Hi Mariangelie!
First off, have you ever worked or experienced being in a child delivery room before? Why do you want to go into this particular type of work; does it excite and engage you? If you have not, I would recommend reaching out to a hospital and seeing if you can job shadow to see if you enjoy doing that particular work. I would also urge you to maybe try out different types of avenues within the medical field, because you never know what you might like! I would not focus so much on the money aspect part so much; I would recommend finding something that you will enjoy, and the financial aspect of that will follow through.
As like what others have said, I would recommend checking out the other career options listed above in the comments.
Best,

I am a current pharmacy student and I did want to inform you that pharmacists make a very good salary. It does range depending on the type of pharmacist you become. Some numbers I found were on average $114,000 to $135,000 and even higher too. Pharmacy is a good profession because we are the medication experts so we get to interact with all types of other healthcare professionals. Pharmacy school is a graduate program which is 4 years. You would have to complete an undergraduate or a pre-pharmacy degree before hand as well! Let me know if you are interested in pharmacy and I can give you more information!
I hope this helps,
