Hi,

In the US in order to become a police officer you do not need to go to a traditional school. They have police academies that will train you. However, if you want to make a better starting salary, I have heard of people getting a bachelors in criminal justice and then going through the police academy to be properly trained. These people tend to rank higher starting out too. Wish you the best of luck!

Jeff’s Answer

Hi Puneeth-

It is important to take a variety of classes relating to law enforcement if you are interested in becoming a police officer. First, you need to take general law classes so you understand how the judicial system works. It is important that you know the state, federal, and local laws, as well as case law. Officer are expected to make split second decisions based upon the knowledge of these laws. Additionally, you need to take classes on criminal procedure, courts, jails/corrections.

Also, besides training your mind, it is important to train your body and stay in good condition too, and the job of police officer can be a very physical job.

Much of what you will learn will also be in the police academy and on the job.

Good luck-
