Hello Rebekah,
Colleges look for students who are well-rounded. What I mean by that is, colleges WANT to know about your other interests, how long you have stayed active with them, and how that has shaped you as a person and student. They also want to see how you manage your time with your interests and hobbies, along with your educational responsibilities-grades. If you are capable of balancing your interests and keeping a high GPA/good grades, colleges will look at that as a great thing! However, this doesn't mean you should commit to anything you can. Keep your commitments real and only of what you are truly interested in, preferably long term. You don't want to commit to too much and let your grades slip. College applications also have personal statements, a good opportunity for you to show colleges, in writing, who you are, what your story is, and how that has shaped you to be you and your life goals. You mentioned writing plays; do you create them to portray an aspect of your life or an aspect you wish was part of your life? If the theatre is something very important to you in any or many ways, you can talk about that in your personal statement.
It's all about sharing with colleges who is Rebekah and what you can do.
I hope this helped you out. If you're a senior in high school, good luck in your journey, and believe you can achieve anything!

Hello Rebekah!
To continue what Yanely said above, colleges really do look for well-rounded students. Your grades are important, but they are not everything. If you like doing the musicals at school, do them! That is also a great opportunity for volunteer opportunities. Look for local theatres in your area, audition for those OR volunteer to work them. Band is a wonderful club that colleges recognize. If your band has a leadership team, or even drum majors, look into how to accomplish those things. Volunteer at the local community center music classes. Look for a part time job at a music store. The key is to find clubs or activities you love and are passionate in, and see how to use those passions to your advantage. Colleges will look at your dedication, volunteering, grades, and your application as a whole.
