Check out an organization called DoSomething.org. It's the largest organization for youth and social change and has some really cool opportunities!

Pam’s Answer

Hi Tiffanie,

I joined several Employee Groups who do a lot with the community. Some of the things we do are:
• Work with a local animal shelter (I personally foster kittens, but we also donate our time and do donation drives for them)
• Do food drives and donate to a local college so students in need have things to eat
• Do toiletry drives for kids in need in high school
• Serve food at a local church or shelter
• Do 5k races or volunteer for them to benefit different charities
• Do blood drives
- Volunteer at a nursing home
- Be a big sister

You can do most of these activities by yourself, but some are more fun w/people you know.

There are so many ways to get involved. I recommend picking something you are passionate about and volunteering there. You may have to try a few different things, but once you find one you care deeply about, you will be hooked! Good luck finding your passion!

Pam recommends the following next steps:

Research 501c3 charities in your area
Pick an issue you care about

Hi Tiffanie,

If you're currently attending school, a great resource would be looking into Student Involvement opportunities on campus. Most Colleges and Universities support Non-Profit organization with a "calendar of events". They may have a website under "Student Life" that houses all the Organizations with links to each group.

Generally, at the beginning of each Semester or the beginning of the School year, most campuses offer a "Student Fair" giving each these Non-Profit Volunteer groups an opportunity to showcase each groups mission. Each group may also have an office on campus if you'd like to drop by or contact for more details.

Take a look at what's available in your area and see what peaks your interest. Best of Luck! Volunteering can open so my doors!!

Anna’s Answer

Hi Tiffanie,

I would also suggest checking with your employer if you are currently working. Here at PwC we have a number of community lead initiatives, and we are encourage to give back to the community through volunteering and fundraising. If you're not currently in work, but actively looking, a good question for potential employers is if they encourage getting involved with the community, and if so how. Especially if this is something you're passionate about. More and more employees are beginning to recognise the importance of giving back, and encouraging their employees to actively participate.

Best of luck to you!
