What kind of degree do I need for becoming a Technician?
I love using technology a lot!! Playing video games is my life, and I love using computers especially. But if I want to create something out of tech, like a new video game, or help others work on a new console/ system, what's the required degree? Or at least what college should I go to? #technician #technology #video-games #console #system #computer #college #degree

Hi Alex, great to know you love to pay with technology. That's a great start. You can either get a 4 year degree in computer science, electrical or mechanical/industrial engineering. Alternately, a 2 year associate degree with some hands on networking training would also put you in a good position for a technician job.
Thank you, Sanyogita!! Those suggestions sound perfect, and the networking training would actually help really well.

Alex,
Always follow your passion. It makes work feel....less like work! I started in hospitality of all places, was recruited to desktop support due to my customer service, managed desktop support teams, ran Executive Support and am now using technology to run events virtually. I suggest getting internships early by connecting with the industry along with your education. On the job training is extremely valuable.

Thank you, Brian!! Since I love technology a lot, I'll let my mind take me where it wants to, and discover the world and the careers in the community as well.

It sounds like you are talking about coding and computer science, which is a skill you can develop right now on your own. Try looking up game jams like the popular one ran by Game Maker's Toolkit on itch.io (you can find his channel on YouTube and see how previous game jams went). Coders also often get together online in places like Discord, where they share free resources and can give you feedback on games you've made. You'll find it easier to apply for computer science degrees and jobs if you improve your ability to code and build a portfolio of programs that you've written.
Thank you, Simeon!! I don't really know how to use Discord, but if I need it to learn about this career, I'll plan on setting one up then.

You may want to look into WPI. I have seen a couple of there graduates on recent seasons of Battle Bots.
