Depending on your level of interest, there are many ways to get into cosmetics. If you desire to be able to formulate your own cosmetics, researching chemistry is very beneficial to understand how things can interact. It is also very important to research regulations to understand the different aspects that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Cosmetic Act (C Act), and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA) looks at when it comes to cosmetics. Although the FDA does not approve of cosmetics, if there is any reason to believe that a product could harm others or endanger them, they will step in.
To create your own cosmetic business, I would start with creating a plan of what you would like to create. The basic "formulation" for a majority of products can be found online and made at home to some degree. I would advise into looking to designate your manufacturing materials as only for cosmetics, so look into purchasing some additional Tupperware and utensils from a dollar store or thrift store so they are not mixed with your items that you normally use for making food. The next step would be to practice and play with your formulas, this is how you will learn and research new methods. As you perform your physical formula research, start to try to perform marketing and research for your company. Social media can provide you the opportunity to poll others on their favorite smells, tastes, products, etc. This will give you a better idea of what your current market is looking for. After you have performed these steps and have created a formula that you like, look into figuring out your labor and material cost to create a price point that generates a profit. The final step that ties it all together is how it is packaged.

Although I am not an expert in the field you are planning to pursue, I would say try to network. Networking is an important tool for any profession and can land you opportunities you would never have thought possible. Try informing your friends, relatives, and social circles that you are looking for a job; you never know when a friend-of-a-friend may be looking for someone like you!
