Hey Rachyl,

The place to start is look at what you want to do for a career. Every career has various salary ranges. Once you find out what field you want to work in, you will need to:

*Ensure that you have the qualifications that the employer is looking for
*Work your way from the ground up (everyone has to start at the beginning)
*Find out what state you want to reside in as salaries vary by state

As you continue on your career path, you will be able to negotiate salary at the time you are extended an employment offer. You want to be sure to negotiate utilizing your skills, education and experience. This can be done in writing. Here is a great example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSsJ1O7l8nQ

You will get there, it takes time.
Hope that helps.

Think about what type of career you want to have, research the salary range associated with it. Use that salary range to determine whether or not it will allow you to have the lifestyle you want. Don't forget to consider major life milestones that may impact your income level. Also, consider any investments or entrepreneurship opportunities that you could work towards currently and that will help you stay financially stable in the long run.

Simeon’s Answer

Ensuring a stable income has a lot to do with making sure you have a variety of options for jobs and don't take on a lot of debt that you'll be fighting to keep up with. As far as extra steps to live comfortably, make sure that you are networking. Meet people in your industry as well as socialize in general. You'll make connections that will open doors for you that you could never get open by sending an application.

Samantha’s Answer

One great way to get a better understanding of what salary range you'd like to aim for is to create a projected budget of your expenses. I would recommend estimating how much you can see yourself paying in rent, how much you anticipate spending on food/toiletries/clothing and other necessities every month, transportation costs, the monthly cost of repaying any student loans you may have, and how much you'd like to budget for fun every month. You should also consider how much money you'd like to be able to save every month. Rent is a particularly important consideration, because the cost can vary greatly based upon the city you hope to live in after graduation. Based upon your budget, you'll be able to determine the minimum salary that would be acceptable for you. While I certainly wouldn't base your career choice entirely on salary, I think it's great that you're already considering your financial stability. Make sure you choose a career path you are passionate about, but also keep in mind what kinds of monetary choices you'll need to make to pursue your dream career.
