Depends on what kind of lawyer you are. If you are of the public /district attorney's office it can be heavy, and the rewards may be minimal, but you will be helping people in a charitable way (pro bono etc.). Being a corporate lawyer pays more but you cannot be sure that your personal ethics/values will stay intact ,for long. If you are a lawyer with your own consultancy you maintain your personal ethics and /or you can choose clients who will pay you well, treat you well. IF you are a criminal defense lawyer you are for an awakening. Sometimes you get to defend a truly innocent one with a bad image/reputation. But most times you will get to defend guilty people who will commit the same/similar crime/s once they are out on the streets again, because of your efforts for them.

My daily routine entails responding to emails first things in the morning and planning my day and "to do" list. I make sure to prioritise my workstreams so that I meet deadlines. I then proceed to either having client calls or working on client matters throughout the course of the day. Corporate work requires a lot of client communication and drafting as well so my day is normally filled with one of the two. Late nights can be expected as a corporate lawyers as clients often set tight deadlines to complete transactions. It is a matter of ensuring an appropriate balance so that you get the respite needed during a lull period and being proactive when things get busier.
