Tia’s Answer

I went to work directly after high school and then later went to college at nights and on the weekends (Community College first- MBA). My first job was as a receptionist but other people I know have been call-center people, HVAC (after technical school), real estate agents (after taking realtor test), farmers, small business owners, or manual laborers. I agree with Zachary that you should do something you enjoy- I wanted air conditioning and people interaction while a friend of mine can't imagine being inside all day. Think about what type of work you enjoy and apply there. And don't let the job description fool you- for most entry level jobs, a high school degree is fine even if they say they prefer college education.

Once you start moving up, take advantage of employer college tuition programs. 1/2 of my schooling was paid that way. Many times your career growth will be limited by not having a degree but it doesn't mean you can't get to work first and get the degree little by little.

Hi Zeli, I don't think there is a "Best" job for after high school. It all depends on your interests in life. What do you enjoy doing? Are you open to education after high school? Education doesn't need to be college, it can be training for certificates and such. I think you should ask yourself what it is you really want to do.

I will offer two really good jobs after high school.
First, work in a store, a coffee shop, tea shop, any small chain. You will learn a lot of skills by working in a small business environment where you have to wear many hats, you learn to work with others, you learn the importance of customer service, you learn to manage your time outside of school work because now you will have to plan for different shifts and sometimes cover for a co-worker and most important you will learn what it take to earn mostly entry level wages and then realize that you have to pay taxes so you don't really earn $12/hr or $15/hr depending on where you live :)
Second, I highly recommend working in technology adjacent areas. There are a lot of tasks that are done digitally/remotely, for example for AI we need people to annotate our images or we need someone to review a bunch of data or charts. These are not very hard technical jobs, you don't need to know too much math or coding but you will need to learn a new tool and working within that tool fairly quickly. Your high school education is sufficient to do these tasks. An example of such jobs can be found on https://www.mturk.com/, there are many other sites too and lot of companies might post such tasks on recruitment sites. This is a good experience because these jobs are flexible (can be done any time, any where), you will learn something about newer technologies like AI, Robotics, etc. and you will become more adaptable to working with many tools and technologies because no matter what you study you will need to work with different and multiple tools so investing in increase your tech awareness via a job is worth more than the money you can earn.
Good Luck!!
