Jim’s Answer
Common first jobs are restaurants and some retail places. I've managed restaurants for thirty years and have hired many high school students. Hosting is a great place to start as a first job or as a teenager. Also, places that don't serve alcohol (family restaurants like Denny's or fast food establishments) are more likely to hire employees under eighteen. Just make sure as a minor that you are familiar with the laws in your state regarding hours you're allowed to work and what kind of breaks you should be given. Not all employers will be on top of those things like they should. Good luck!

Fast food and retail is pretty common, but you might be able to land a job doing remote customer service or data entry depending on how proficient you are with technology.

Developing soft skills (people, leadership, etc.) is best for long-term goals. Some jobs to accomplish this might include: camp counselor, lifeguard, caddying, retail jobs. Anything with customer service will definitely help.

Hi Grazielyn - the most common job at your age is in a fast food restaurant or in a small business shop. You can also try working at your school (e.g. library, admin office, etc). You can also be an online reseller - find an online seller who sell items that you like and inquire if you can be a reseller, which you will be paid commission basis. If you have a small capital, you can also sell something that you are passionate of. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Adrianna’s Answer
Think about what is in a certain mile radius of your home for convenience at this age, and then get clear on whether you enjoy doing solitary work that is maybe behind the scenes, like prepping pizza at a pizza joint, or interactive with the public and different personalities, so waiting tables or bagging groceries. Do you enjoy working with animals, small children, the older population - these questions will help you choose which direction to go in as well. BEST of luck!
