Hi Emma,
My sister-in-law is a labor and delivery nurse. She works 12-hour shifts, at least three days a week. When she is on-call, the hours can be different, mostly lower.
It is a mostly rewarding, sometimes heartbreaking job.

Hi Emma
Good question !!!
This would depend on the field in which you work. Most businesses are 9AM-5PM, but that is fairly much the old norm. Times are changing everywhere...lol

Hi, Emma, good question! There are at least a couple ways to go about having a career with babies. One is to work as an RN (Registered Nurse) in either a "term nursery" (which is for healthy babies born roughly when they are due) or in an NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). NICU's are for premature or sick newborns who need more intensive nursing and medical care. Typically RN's in most hospitals work 12 hour shifts averaging 3 shifts/week. These could be either day or night shifts. Some hospitals may offer 8 hour shifts which often are 5 days a week. Neonatologists are pediatric doctors who specialize in the care of newborns. Hours during training to become a neonatologist can be very long with after-hours on-call shared among the others also in training. After finishing training, hours may be more reasonable but still usually require participating in an on-call schedule with a few others. It can be a very rewarding profession either as a nurse or doctor but it is a demanding one.
There are other careers which also provide an opportunity to work with babies such as working in day care centers which would typically have shorter work hours.
