Bryan’s Answer
Prince could do it all: He could sing, dance, he was a killer guitar player, and most importantly, he wrote great songs! People listen to songs...it doesn't matter how well he does all those other things if he doesn't have strong songs to use his talents in. He was the total package.
Some of my favorite singers are Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers, Ronnie James Dio, and Ray Gillen. (look him up..;-)

Prince is without question one of my all time favorite artists. He brought so many elements that came together in such a unique way. His work ethic is actually one of his biggest successes. He would rehearse and put the time in almost excessively. I know a fellow musician that played with him for a few years and he shared that he never worked with anyone that practiced and perfected songs as much as Prince did. He did that so that magic moments could happen, where everyone on stage knew the songs so well that creative and free moments could happen that just took it to another level. Prince also incorporated so many styles of music (funk, rock, gospel, jazz, etc) but yet made them all with his own sound and style, which only the great ones really do well.
But similar to Eric's answer, I can never just pick one favorite of anything, particularly with music. Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Freddie Mercury, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Robert Plant, Whitney Houston, Myles Kennedy, Amy Winehouse, Frank Sinatra, Axl Rose. These are all singers that are truly outstanding in their field and all bring something unique to the table.

Prince was definitely an incredible artist! His unique blend of genres, mesmerizing stage presence, and exceptional musical talent made him stand out. His ability to push boundaries, both musically and socially, and his iconic fashion sense added to his legendary status. Prince was a true innovator and his impact on the music industry will always be remembered.
Freddie Mercury was amazing. I love a lot of music so it's hard to pick!

Haha this was my favorite question I've seen yet! Dude mastered the brand like few artists ever have. His look was a cultural phenomenon. Even without his musical abilities he would have created shockwaves.

I do love Prince, but for met it's a three-way tie between:
David Ruffin. Singer from the Temptations. Listen to "I Wish It Would Rain", or his solo song "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)".
Aretha Franklin. The Queen of Soul. Listen to darn near anything of hers, but definitely go deeper than just Respect. Or watch the movie "Amazing Grace".
(What can I say, I grew up in Detroit, hence the first two.)
And finally Freddie Mercury. Watch Queen's performance at Live Aid, and pay attention to how he absolutely commands that audience. Electric.
