Whats a good way for a farmer to keep accurate books?

Either hire an accountant who helps you with this or use the software that is widely used by small businesses.

Hi Tanner,
I agree with Atul to either hire someone or use a basic small business software package like Quickbooks. You can also check with your local small business administration office or the USDA to ask for advice. Below are other things to keep in mind in order to keep accurate books.
1) Stay organized by documenting transactions and keeping track of income and expenses. I find that it makes it much easier if you stay organized, file your receipts (file them away asap) and stay on top of income and bills.
2) Set aside time each week to work on your books. I can't stress how important this step is. The reasons for this are two-fold; to keep track of your financial situation, tax preparation.
If you don't have much experience with how to keep your books please reach out to the sources I mentioned above as I'm sure they will be able to assist or guide you in the right direction.
