Great Question. Depending on your level of college. You need a Masters Degree to make any real great money. This is a low level paying field, rewarding can be stressful and fun. You are helping others to help themselves. Depending also on where you are working at and who for. A hospital is great pay. Or the school is pretty good pay. With much time off. Most all the days the children are out of school you will be off work with pay and that is good. A school guidance counselor. Crisis intervention counselor is not very high paying. This is a broad field. This really varies as to what kind of social work you want to do. Work with teens? Work with familes and children? Work with mentally ill patients? Or work with mentally challenged people? Have you decided what social job you would like to do yet? There are so many. Humanitarin relief, the red cross. so many.

I did forget to tell you that the positive is helping others. The negitive is it can be stressful. Also low pay. Rewarding at times. You must have a great level of good listening skills, and must help others to help themselves in whatever social field you are in you have empathy for others a diverse field you may need a spanish or multiple language classes as well. If you want good money you must must have a Masters or a P.H.D. in this field. Then you can make great money and help others too.

Hi,
Social Work is a great and very rewarding career, as some of the other advice mentions - it it generally a low paying career field. I would suggest possibly minoring in social work and majoring in something else that interests you, maybe criminal justice or something like psychology/computers/etc. The more skills you have, the better off you will be. Certifications are very important as well...LSW, certified addition counselor, etc. Good luck.
