Is there any acting programs in NYC that are highly beneficial for a male teen actor?
currently I am a High School freshman and I am looking forward to becoming an actor, but I do not know of any acting programs that can provide me with the experience to forward the career. #acting #film #actor #film-making #playwright #scripting

Hi,
I am an acting coach on Los Angeles so I am not familiar with all the teen classes in NYC. I suggest you call The Actors Studio or The Lee Strasberg's Theater and Film Institute. They will advise. I am sure Strasberg's has classes for teens, they do in LA. If you want to be a film actor make sure you do the sensory and improvisational classes.

Welcome to the club! There are a couple schools you should look at. My first suggestion is The Barrow Group. I completed a Theatrical Clowning class there and it was fun! Some of my friends have studied there and are now employed by the school. Not only did they get training, they got a good survival job, too! (Which is equally as important. Need flexibility for those rehearsal schedules!)
What kind of techniques are you looking to do? If you're looking at universities, check out the Tisch program at NYU. It is extremely competitive but produces casts of strong and hungry actors. A friend of mine is doing very well in California after graduating a few years ago. If you want less committment while you test the waters, I suggest looking into studio classes (like the Barrow Group). PLEASE research before enrolling. There are many gimmicks out there preying to rob young hopefuls of money for cheap training. This Timeout article is a good reference point for quality schools: https://www.timeout.com/newyork/theater/best-acting-classes-in-new-york.
For comedy training, look into The Pit, UCB, and Magnet Theatre. There are valuable tools learned in comedy that will translate into any sort of acting you wish to pursue. Improv jams are free and happening all over the city and will allow you to network and strengthen your timing muscle!
Make a Backstage account and start auditioning. Training helps but getting OUT there is how a career is born. Find a good photographer and get headshots (they REALLY matter so trust that the $$$ is worth it). Have fun, be fearless, have an insatiable appetite. Never lose sight of the stage! :)
