The salary range for chefs cam vary a lot. Top chefs make over 100,000 a year and some chefs work for 50,000 a year. It depends on your skill passion and your dedication. There is demand in every part of our industry, from clubs, restaurants, hospitals, business dinning to sales. You just need to get into the job force to see what best suits your lifestyle passion and skill. You will not make top dollars for many years you will have to work holidays weekends and miss not being able the go out with your friends because you will be working when they are off. On the bright side you will always be able to work and you will meet and have a new family all over the world the industry. I have made a good life working as a chef for over 40 years.

The average national salary for chefs in the United States is $15.02 per hour. However, the type of chef a person is can have a significant impact on their salary. For example, executive chefs make more than twice as much as chefs with an average salary of $31.37 an hour.

Head chefs also make more than regular chefs with $23.57 an hour being their average annual income. Sous chefs make a similar wage as head chefs at $23.39 an hour on average.

Additionally, where a chef is located geographically can also have a significant impact on their average salary. For example, chefs in San Francisco, California, make an average of $20.07 per hour, while those in Atlanta, Georgia make $13.66 per hour on average.

There are a number of factors that can influence your income as a chef. The following are the most common factors that contribute to how much a chef earns on an annual basis:

Read Jack's reply very carefully before you choose this profession. It is fine when you are young. How ever once, if you are lucky enough, have a wife and family, this profession is very consuming. You can make a good living if you work hard ( many hours) , can manage people and numbers. I have been doing this since I was 15. I am now 60. I never spent holidays with my real family. I never saw my daughters in the marching band on Friday nights. I am now divorced and alone except for my culinary family. Don't get me wrong. The culinary family that you have is wonderful...but they are not there when you are tired and go home at night. Just please understand the commitment you are making . Even if you make $100,000 or more, the price you pay is high.
