Looking for advice on surviving law school.
As a future first generation law student, I am looking for advice on how to survive law school, especially 1L. How is the workload? What should I do to survive finals? Not sure what law school I am attending, but I know that the curriculum is somewhat the same. #lawyers #pre-law #law

Some good tips on surviving law school are: (1) do all of the assigned reading and develop a good outline system to help you study for exams; (2) try to establish a good study group early on in the semester, it helps to have some accountability partners and other brains to bounce thoughts out of; (3) find school/life balance, burn out is real so do your best to take care of your mental health. Try to set up a reasonable study schedule and remember to take breaks and get enough sleep; (4) footnotes matter! several professors pull exam questions and class questions from these to have you demonstrate how thoroughly you understand the material; (5) Choose electives based on what interests you, school is the time to figure out what areas of law you may be interested in practicing after you pass the bar exam; (6) last but not least, attend legal functions in your community outside of school and network with other legal professionals, this can be incredibly helpful to get more helpful tips and even help secure an internship or job offer.

You have to work really hard your first year and do really well to have the most options for your legal career. I was advised to give up my life for a year. I did. From class at. 8am012am it all law all the time except for the gym and meals. I participated in class and was always prepared. Because of that I did really well, landed a good summer position at a top firm and was able to coast the rest of the way going into the second semester of my 2L while others were hustling for all 3 years, I was pretty much done with law school after a year and a half.

Hi Paige.... trust yourself and follow your instincts. Find your balance and take care of yourself and your mental health. Remember your study habits... the habits that have made you successful so far. You don't need to change what works well for you. Work smarter, not harder. Form relationships with a study partner or study groups, if that helps you. As a first generation law student, your family may not always understand everything you are going through, but they can support you in other ways. Also, you are in good company... most other people are still trying to figure it out, too. Good luck. You'll be great!
