Hi Beth!
When I was in University majoring for Psychology, I was very excited to start learning about human behavior, but I never though there would be so much theory to learn (meaning LOTS of reading to do and LOTS to remember) Something that really help me, was getting better at my note taking skills of what I was reading, my overall reading skills, time management and resourceful ( I would look for audio book versions of what I ad to read, and would hear them on the commute to University). This aren't exactly characteristics, but there are skills that I know you will find helpful while you're studying so you don't feel so overwhelm.

In my opinion good traits/characteristics for any major, starts with discipline, commitment and dedication. Set goals and create a plan to achieve them. Review it often and make changes if necessary. You will have to discipline your self to study and prioritize your responsibilities, ensuring you commit time and resources to reach your goal(s). Additionally I attended groups or forums with like/similar interests or majors to align my goals as well as help me to stay on task. Lastly, take a break and celebrate yourself when you accomplish your goal(s).
