During your time at a small company i would suggest that you try to get involved in all fields possible to learn more about other functions and specializations. be a pro active individual and work as hard as possible to gain their trust.

In a small company you end up learning and doing many different jobs. A great way to learn alot in a short amount of time. The company depends on all working together as a team. If it's not a good team you could be working more than some of the team members. You tend to work more hours per week in a small company. Benefits and wages usually less.
Thanks John. As you said, this is a great learning opportunity for me. But, I do feel quite overwhelmed with the workload, almost like the compromise isn't worth it. Wondering if you/other people have felt that way and what's the best work-around/option?

Hello!
When working at for a small company its important to remember that you will most likely be asked to do things that aren't directly related to your job title. In many cases you will be asked to wear multiple hats to complete daily tasks around the office. But there is also a ton of benefits to wearing multiple hats and that is that you are exposed to many different job positions. It allows you to become a more well rounded person because you get to see multiple aspects of the business. Another benefit is you are able to generate somer really amazing team chemistry because you are always working with others in order to complete tasks.
I would say the biggest thing is to always be as flexible as possible when asked to something and always be willing to learn. By doing this you show that you are hard working and that they can rely on you to complete a task when asked.
Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for your response Brayden. Do you think there is a benefit to working at a startup early on in your career as opposed to later on?

Working on a small team like mentioned above you very well may be asked to do things that are not directly aligned with your job description. I always recommend to remain open minded and ask many questions. Gaining knowledge and understanding of various roles within the group may help things run a little smoother. It will also allow you to learn many different ways of doing what is asked of you.
Hope this helps!!!

Thanks Tiffany. Just wondering if you can elaborate a bit on how understanding various roles within a group/company, can help?

Good evening Rupa
You asked to elaborate on my comment regarding understanding various roles within a company or group. I found it easier to navigate when I did a little research or learned other positions within the company. Not saying the entire aspects of the positions but just some key aspects. Working in smaller groups may be difficult but if there’s someone with in the group that has an understanding of the company’s as a whole may help move things along.
