Is it smart to take advantage of a Build-Your-Own-Program at a college you're interested in?

My dream college doesn't offer my exact degree (Medical Laboratory technology). However, they have a system that if they do not offer your degree, they have a "build your own program". Is it smart to do so? Will the program here be less valuable than a school who already offers the program? #college #medicine #technology #college-admissions #college-majors #choosing-a-major #laboratory

Hi Cheyanne - Very good question.

I was always happy with the program I was in even though it differed greatly between the two schools I attended.

My wife on the other hand wishes that she had customized her undergrad program. She learned later that she could have done than and was partly talked out of it.

It sounds like you've got some clear ideas of what you want and it may be a customized program.

Be your own best advocate and pursue the best education for yourself.

Best of luck to you!
Thank you comment icon Hi Bruce, I think I’m gathering from your advice here that you would answer the student’s question with “Yes”... could you clarify exactly what recommendation you’d make to the student? Thanks so much!! Alexandra Carpenter, Admin

College is a time unlike any other in your life. You have gained independence, you are in a new place, and your adult life is gradually staring you in the face. You have choices to make, and you know it. There is no secret recipe for succeeding in college; everyone does it differently, in a style all their own. Most students in college, who succeed however, share certain characteristics.
