For a career in genetics research, what kind of jobs are available in the marketplace? Is it more likely I will be working with a University rather than a private company?

I am hoping to be a researcher in the field of genetics. I am definitely curious as to where I will be working post-graduation because I want to make sure I have some sort of job security. #medicine #science #biology

Hi,

It is very nice to hear that you want to work as a researcher. Based on your question, I guess you would like to have a master or Ph.D. degree? I personally believe that it's more likely to work in a private company instead of a university. The academic position is really limited. There are lots of options, such as CRA, medical liaison?, medical writer, medical editor, medical engineer, researcher, research assistant, scientist. As long as you don't limit yourself, there's plenty of marketplace.

I think it is VERY likely that you will be working in a private company. While the recent completion of the Human Genome Project may make some think the work is mostly done, this accomplishment really raises more questions than answers. Here's one article that touches on some of these questions:

And just as space travel is now moving out of being only sponsored by governments and now being carried out by private companies, you can expect to see something similar in this field.
