STEM is known for being factual and numbers based so how can someone incorparate the arts into a career in STEM if they wanted a more well-rounded career?

I have always been interested in music and literature, but I have a passion for science. I want to be able to have my career in science but also incorporate the arts and history into my life. I wonder if there are any careers that blend the two areas of study. #career #career-counseling #career-path #stem #arts #history

Hi Isabella -- Another buzzword, STEAM, has become known in academia and the workplace -- the goal is to include Creativity in scientific pursuits!

Consider the blend of art with science (and history!) in these careers: Architecture, Archaeology, Science Illustration (Scientific Publishing of any sort), Art Therapy.

I studied library and information science - one area that intrigued me was Preservation. I chose to focus on information systems, but know others who pursued preservation science who went on to fascinating careers at the Library of Congress and in museums around the world.

So, do not despair, you can successfully combine both into a very fulfilling and interesting profession!

Kind regards,

Bridget

Hi Isabella,

Thanks for your questions. Science and art can be combined in several ways. In fact, one can not exist without the other. In addition to the other helpful links provided to you, i would add that if you take a closer and deeper look at the aspect of science that intrigues you, you will find an aspect of art intertwined with it. For instance, a Biological Science major would have to learn to examine images of the body, earth, and the ocean that are only brought to live through artistic expressions.

So, do not be discouraged, find what your passion is, and how to use that passion to impact everyone including yourself.

Take care.
