Organization is likely key. You'll want to keep a solid portfolio of your work and show it to as many people as you can to gain interest in you as a content producer. Maintain an Instagram or Reddit account or website that's fully focused on showcasing your work. That's what employed artists that I know have done.
Networking is also key - freelance work is available, and the best way to find it is to be known within different communities (online, local small businesses, or even just friends and family).
Local art festivals are also a great way to showcase your work, interact with people to get their opinions on what they like or don't like about your work, the kinds of things that they're interested in, etc.
Remember that if you're trying to make a career in a creative field like painting that you may have to make compromises between what you want to create and what you're able to sell. Never be afraid to try new things and put yourself out there.

Hi Leo,
My sister is an artist, so I can share some observations:
1. You have to truly enjoy drawing/paintings as sometimes she spends hours and hours patiently working on one tiny detail.
2. You need to have many new ideas and be very creative.
3. You need to have a lot of discipline and dedication as you will have to attend painting classes regularly to improve the skills and have a professional guidance
4. You need to be very flexible, open-minded and listening what your teacher is saying
5. You need to have very good natural understanding of proportions, styles and design in general.
Hope it helps and good luck with your artist's career.
