N’s Answer

Lawyers need good communication skills. I majored in English. Major in an area that you feel passionate about and that you can do well in. It's also helpful to have good analytical or reasoning skills. Some students take philosophy courses to help them in this area. We've had students go into law from a wide area of majors, from political science to journalism. Most students don't know what area they want to actually practice in until law school. Consider volunteering at a law office, or an office that does volunteer legal work. It may give you an idea of areas of interests. Good luck.

Estelle’s Answer

Your major is not as important as your undergraduate grades, your LSAT score, and your letters of reference. For now, just focus on finding a college that fits you and your budget and a major that really interests you in college so that you will make great grades and get strong letters of recommendation from professors that recognize your potential. Your major will then help you decide which field of law suits you best.
Good luck!

Richard’s Answer

I would choose a major that interests you! My wife is an attorney. She had students in her school from every major imaginable. If you love science, you could do that and then do medical malpractice. If you love accounting, you could become a tax attorney. My wife chose history, and said that all the essay writing in college came in handy for writing in law school.
