Hi Lanayjah:
The traditional and most straight forward path is to get a degree in social work to become a social worker. I've worked with individuals that majored in a complete different area (i.e. English, liberal arts, music, etc.) and worked in a social services agency as a case manager, employment counselor with youth, etc.
Hope this helps,
angela

Many universities offer a bachelors in social work (BSW) option. With a BSW you can start working in the social work field right away.
Personally, I got a degree in psychology and then got my masters in social work (MSW).
I've also heard of people getting a degree in sociology and then getting an MSW. Once you have a MSW you have more career opportunities like managing programs or working towards a clinical license.

BSW is the most obvious bachelor's degree program. Additionally, you should keep in mind that having a BSW often times allows you to finish MSW programs faster.
