Hi Louie,
Consider the 'why' you want to go into a field that helps people with mental illiness. It can be a tough, draining area to go into. You'll need great listening skills, the ablity to separate yourself from other's issues, and even better boundries. This an interesting field to be in, if you are ready for it. I wish you well as you figure out your future.
Kind regards.

But what's the question?!
I will say that the world needs more good therapists. I've gone through several in the last year trying to find someone who could listen well and prompt some good introspection. In-person, through phone services, online chat services, school counselors when I was in school; I've spoken with about 8 mental health professionals, and only one of those made me feel that they were genuinely interested in helping me and invested in their sessions.
Truly, I hope that you remain passionate about this career goal and find fulfillment in making peoples' lives better.
Good luck!
