Some companies have policies that prevent their employees to take up paid roles (or even unpaid roles) at other places. It's best if you can check with the Employee Management team or the HR team on this to avoid creating issues at work. Other companies might allow extra jobs as long as you provide the information to the company. Also, side gigs and freelance jobs are almost always permissible by any company.

I agree with Denis's answer.
Most companies won't mind you working on your own thing if it doesn't impede your ability to perform at your primary role. This is how most startups, new ideas, or second incomes happen.
Doing gig work (part time, pick-up style work) on the side is a great way to generate income on the side with some free time you have without having to enter into another full time job. There's lots of places online that can accommodate that (search for gig work). Or, you can do some manual labour style work (landscaping, painting, etc.) on evenings/weekends.
Many police/fire fighters work different hours than 9-5, so they have gaps in their week where they often pick up additional work. Or, software developers who have small clients they work for in the evenings/weekends.
Good luck!

Michael, many companies are actually ok with workers taking other jobs, as long as they're outside of scheduled work hours, not using company's resources/equipment, and in some cases also not in a related/competitive field. Denis
Thank you for letting me know about this.
