Is it bad to change your majors even if it lands in the same category?

I want to study in the medical field. Anything from technician to nursing. What if I choose to go with nursing in a 4 year college but then regret it and change to sonography or X-ray technology? Is that possible? If so , is that okay? #nursing #college-major #technology #sonography

Hi Angie,

Good question! It's definitely okay to change majors in college. =) Because you know you want to work in the medical field, all the classes you've completed will probably apply to your new major. To save you time and money, I suggest volunteering at a hospital or medical facility during your free time. This will give you a chance to see different jobs in action and talk to people who can tell you what they like and don't like about their jobs. You might be able to choose the career that is right for you before you start college.

Hi Angie - I agree with the responses above. It's totally ok to explore your options at this time and see what path you want to move forward in. I majored in Civil Engineering and have moved on to doing customer analytics as a career. College definitely sets the foundation for your career path.

Most people are study a particular major in school and then work in a totally different field once they enter the job market. The most important part of college is completing that degree and then making a career choice once you enter the job market. You may find out that a particular career field does not provide what you are looking for and hence you do something similar in the field or something totally different.

Angie,

It is ALWAYS okay to change your mind! The additional hours may or may not be covered by whatever financial aid plan you are on. But, if you determine you are going down the wrong path, why stay on it? It's impossible to know with certainty at such a young age what you want to do with the rest of your life!
