Brayden’s Answer

Hello!

There are many routes you can go if you want to work in the orthopedic industry. There are many different roles in orthopedics from engineering where you are designing new instruments and implants to product and projects managers that are responsible for ensuring projects are meeting timelines, creating marketing campaigns to going out into the field to sell the products to surgeons. There is also the sales side where you are actually selling surgical kits to the doctors and assisting surgeons when they need replacement parts for kits. Depending on the occupation you ultimately choose this will determine the amount of school thats needed.

Hopefully this helps!

If you want to become an orthopedic doctor, getting your undergrad in kinesiology is a good place to start. Kinesiology is the study of human movement and biomechanics. This will give you a good foundation for med school, especially if orthopedics is your goal. If you do not want to become a doctor but are still interested in orthopedic medicine, you can become an Athletic Trainer. Athletic trainers specialize in sports and orthopedic medicine. You traditionally see them at the sidelines at sporting events, recently they have been working in physical therapy clinics, doctor's offices, and, with proper training, they can work in the OR with orthopedic surgeons. In order to become an Athletic Trainer, you would need to obtain a master's degree in Athletic Training and pass a certification exam before obtaining a license.
