How do I focus myself in school?

I am very hard working and am very motivated #school #work-life-balance

Thank you comment icon Hey Kat! Talking about focusing on the study at the school, first of all, I would suggest you find a studying circle (circle of friends dedicated to studying). Working on your daily schedule while prioritizing your study can also be another good way to focus and keep track of your schoolwork. For me, these ideas actually worked. I hope my little suggestions would become useful to you. :) Suzan

Key to staying focused in school is time management in my opinion. If you are able to prioritize your tasks and commit time to each task, you will already have a head start. You should focus on learning the material rather than just completing the task as without knowing what to do, it will take more time to complete it. Another thing to keep in mind is to get good sleep so you are able to focus more clearly and also establish a routine or get a planner and write down everything that you want to do each day or for the week and come back and see whether or not you were able to accomplish it.

Mel’s Answer

Hi Katerina!

I recently graduated university a year ago and I found staying focused (especially with online learning) could be challenging at times, so some things I did were:

- Create a list of things to do. Break the tasks in smaller chunks eg:" Write essay" can be broken into "write introduction", "write references" etc. By turning a big task in a series of mini ones, it makes it seem less daunting and more achievable!

- If you're online learning, turn off any social media notifications while you're on a zoom session.

- Make time to rest! This is most important!

Armando’s Answer

Katerina,

Try the following:

Eat a healthy breakfast so that you fuel & hydrate yourself at the start of each day.
Eliminate distractions like your phone , turn it off while in class or if you are studying
Check for understanding and think of questions while in class or while studying.
Get involved in discussion. Actively participating in the classroom should help etch the materials in your brain at a faster rate than not participating.
Take detailed notes and re write the notes when studying . Writing , especially thinking about what you write will help you learn and retain the materials covered in school.

Understanding that the time you are putting in will greatly impact your future. BUT also know when to take breaks once in awhile! You don't want to over exert and stress yourself out - that will be detriment to your productivity and frustrate you in trying to achieve your goals. Allow yourself time to REfocus!

Samuel’s Answer

Hello,

Focusing myself in school was my biggest problem when I was younger, so am happy to give you some tips on what I think would have helped me. Biggest issue for me was lack of organization. I did not keep a planner, have folders for my papers, or an clean place to do work at home. If you can keep track of what needs to get done (and when it's due), you'll have a better job making sure you do it. I suggest using a daily planner and/or whiteboard at home where you can keep track of your assignments & their due dates. Another thing that would help immensely is to make sure you get to be early enough to be able to function the next day at school. I'd stay up late every night, and by the end of the day would be falling asleep in my classes. Whatever classes were in my last periods where the ones I would do the worst in because I'd just sleep through them. Making sure you set yourself up to have a chance will make getting through school easier. Final recommendation is if you need help, ask early. Reach out to the teacher when you first start having a problem, instead of waiting until the problem is an enormous. They will be able to help get you back on track & where you need to be in time to make a difference for your final grade.
