Hi Chad - Great question! I would recommend jobs in the service industry, which is what I did during the summers in high school. Working at a local restaurant/coffee shop/ice cream store are all great experiences, and they can be fun too! These jobs usually provide opportunities to receive tips from customers, which will help you save up some spending money and help you learn how to save and budget. You also learn great people skills in these jobs. Interacting with all types of customers will teach you how to work with different personalities, and will prepare you for working other jobs in college and beyond. Customer service is a great experience to teach you patience, understanding, and problem solving.
I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck!

Here is a useful article, Chad - https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/finding-a-job/jobs-for-high-school-students. No matter what, try to pursue something that you're interested in or are curious about! NYC has *so* many retail and food service options.

Target pays excellent for requiring no experience. Lifeguarding offers life skills. Retail/stores in your hometown give a lot of human interaction. Don't work where you love the food. It will get old awful fast (except ice cream. Ice cream never gets old). Movie theatres are open late so you can start your shift later and have more hours. Just do something.

Hey Chad,
There are lots of great options for High School students. See some of the other answers for great ideas and articles. My advice for you...stick with a job rather than jumping around. Even though your still in HS, it shows that you are committed and loyal. You can also likely get a reference from your boss if you stay at a job for a while and work hard. Good luck!

There are normally a lot of jobs in retail and food service which provide flexibility and are great options for students. I also recommend looking at some local businesses for some works like receptionists, data entry, etc... Many of these jobs offer a bit more stable hours during summer.
