Could I switch between two professions/jobs?
I was thinking of double majoring in nutrition and music, because I love both subjects so much and want to have both in my life. Would it be possible to switch between the two if one career path does not work out? I want to audition for a music company and be a trainee, but that would require a full time dedication to the music industry. I'm afraid that if I do that, I will lose my knowledge on nutrition and won't be able to go back into that field. But if I start in nutrition and later audition for the music company, I might be too old to get in, and if I do pass auditions, I would face the same problem: trying to get back into the nutrition field. Any solutions?? #career #music #career-choice #career-path #double-major #nutrition #career-change #music-industry

Hi,
In response to your comment, I would suggest that you pursue your major in nutrition, even if you have to take a light load in college. Most people who audition for music performances have a backup plan. You can always stop your college if you make it big and then resume your studies at a later time. I don't think you have to choose, but it is always wise to have several options available. The music profession is very competitive, but if you are really good, it can be a lifetime endeavor like my son has made it. He works his day job to pay the bills, and if they make money in the band, so much the better. And he loves it all! Thaht's the main thing...enjoy what you do. Too many people work jobs they don't like but feel trapped. I am an artist and love doing this to exercise my creative side. Best of luck and stay in touch.

Hi Dominique,
I am not certain what kind of music you are interested in pursuing. Nutrition is going to require at least a Bachelor's Degree and then to obtain a good job, you may need additional training. If your interest is in classical music, you could pursue that as a degree if that is what you decide. If you are interested in vocal music, that may require more individual instruction than college work. Many people keep music as a part time endeavor. I have a son in his forties who has a day job and still plays in a band, but he does not depend upon that as his sole income. Perhaps you need to specify the kind of music so we would have more to go on in advising you.
Best of luck,

Why not do both, instead of alternating? Perhaps you could work for a tour management company and help artists with healthier lifestyles, or tour as a nutritionist for a Music Group or artist.
