I do not work in logistics, but here is something I found online that might help you -

I think the overall answer is simple: making sure that you have enough to work without having too much. It also includes, I think, searching for new partners to get things from and work with price, schedule, quality ...
Sometimes, companies have internal requirements like "everything we deliver is from recycled product". If you are working with a provider, you need to make sure the provider provides you with the products you want.
I am not working in that area, so it is going to be hard for me to go further (because I am sure there are more responsibilities) but that would be a beginning of an answer.

you can see the logistics as the tool / engine that push the supply chain. all related from shipments, storage, import, export, etc.. and your responsibilities varies and depend where you specifically play in this huge domain
