Aimee’s Answer

Examples of ethical dilemmas in social work could consist of misallocation of funds, using funds that would benefit you versus the clients. Privacy Information, talking with others in regards to HIPAA related matters to someone other than the client. another ethical dilemma example could be accepting gifts from clients. Kristina’s Answer

One example of an ethical dilemma which would most likely present itself later in your career would be a friend/colleague asking if you would supervise that individual to count toward hours for licensure. This type of request is important to consider because social workers as a group may feel obligated to help. However, it is most ethical and appropriate for someone who does not have any personal connection or potential bias to serve as a supervisor.

Kristina recommends the following next steps:

Suggest that the friend consider another supervisor who has no existing relationship with the individual.
Refer to the NASW Code of Ethics.
