The previous answer from Krystyna is good so I won't repeat that. This site will expose you to a variety of thoughts and opinions, all of which are beneficial. Also, you may meet folks that might align directly with your interests, and then you can enter another level of information gathering. As you read more information, this site may help you decide which of your interests to further pursue.

I love science and I'm a professional geologist and author. I also enjoy mentoring younger people. So, If I can be of any further help, please let me know.

Take care,

Tony

Krystyna’s Answer

This site is helpful for a lot of questions regarding career paths! As you continue to look into your interests you can use this site to ask specific questions, and get advice regarding how other people have pursued their careers in that field and their advice. There are also a lot of resources you can utilize through school, like the school counselor who can give you some areas you may be interested in given your interests. I found it very helpful to attend career fairs and look into speaking with academic counselors through colleges to narrow down the different careers that were available given my interests. You can also ask questions on here to get more in depth information on the steps people have taken to achieve their educational and professional goals. For instance what type of schooling, extracurricular activity, jobs, etc. those in their field chose to be successful in their career.

I think I would add to the above comments that you ultimately will get out of this site what you put into it. As mentioned there are a multitude of people from diverse places, careers, and backgrounds who are all willing to provide advice from their experience.

As for setting goals, it is a valued skill just about everywhere because of the psychological benefits. Something to get you started on is to identify a few areas of your life where you feel goals would be good. Picture yourself obtaining your goal, if you are artistic bring that vision to life. Many sports leagues will have their athletes create goal poster or charts, in part team building, in part to make it more real and something they can see to remind them of their goal. Once you have done that, another useful exercise, although maybe not as fun... is to envision you having failed to obtain your goal... Explore what you think would be the root causes of that, then put together plans on how you would deal with those risk areas to avoid mistakes you potentially already know.

I hope you find this helpful and continue to ask questions.
