What careers can I get with a computer science degree?
I recently changed my major to computer science due to my interest in programming. But, I also want to know what are some of the career options I can consider in the future. I have heard about computer science students working in the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and in the Astronomy field. This led to be think that there are many more job careers in computer science than I previously thought but it would be nice if someone could list a couple of careers. #computer-science

Hi,
You did the right thing by selecting Computer Science as field of study. Sky is the limit. It is important to have strong background in Mathematics (Statistics), algorithms, and lots of programming languages (like python, java, java script, etc.). Emerging areas such as Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, and Data Science are all open to a computer science graduate. Data science especially can be applied to all other scientific fields such as the two you mentioned and many more. Try to learn Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud computing (AWS has student access and lots of free-tier access).
Good luck on your studies and bright future it holds.

For specific career options, there's a lot of variety.
Programming
Software architecture
Software Engineering (sort of a combination of the above two)
Test engineer
Program management
With sufficiently strong stats background, then various quant positions are also available.
Basically everything is driven by computers now, so everyone is hiring comp sci people. Your bank likely employs programmers.
